Tanning
Norway Studies have suggested that the melanocyte stimulating hormone, Melanotan 2, can achieve a darker skin pigmentation without the risks of excessive sun exposure.
Melanotan ii was first discovered by researchers looking for methods of treating skin cancer. They hypothesised that an animal’s natural pigmentary system could be stimulated to produce a safe and protective tan before UV exposure. Thus reducing the risk of skin damage in animals during studies.
A small amount of UV exposure stimulates melanin production from the skin’s melanocytes. Melanotan 2 has been shown to be effective on all skin types in animals.
Melanotan II has demonstrated its ability to promote melanogenesis with minimal side effects. Melanogenesis can protect the hypodermis, which is the layer beneath the skin, from harmful UV-B rays. In addition, absorbing all UV-B light prevents penetration into the skin [1].
Fat loss
Norway Clinical studies have shown significant results when using Melanotan 2 for weight loss. During studies using animal models, Melanotan II appears to lower fat storage and decrease appetite. Food preferences and intake are influenced by the MC-4R (melanocortin-4 receptor). Not only has MT-2 shown to reduce food intake in mice models but scientific research has suggested it alters their desire for fatty foods.
Mice administered with Melanotan II are found to reject fatty foods they would otherwise enjoy. Similarly, mice lacking the melanocortin-4 receptor eat primarily fat and are unaffected by MT-2. Leptin, which can lessen cravings and food intake, has similar effects to MT-2. However, leptin has never been found to be effective in treating obesity, or even in individuals that have insufficient leptin [2].
Norway Scientific research found that melanotan ii has the ability to reduce appetite by making the user consume less, in addition to reducing visceral and subcutaneous fat. Furthermore, it has been shown to increase metabolism and activity, all of which cause weight loss [3].
Sexual dysfunction
Men commonly treat erectile dysfunction (ED) with Viagra and other medications that primarily improve blood flow by lowering vascular resistance. However, not all erectile dysfunction is caused by vascular issues, and therefore Viagra (sildenafil) and similar medications are ineffective in a small percentage of men and the vast majority of women.
MT-2 appears to have a much broader application due to its effects on the central nervous system. Eighty per cent of men during clinical investigations who had a failed response to Viagra responded well to MT-2 therapy. Melanotan II has been extensively researched as a potential treatment for both male and female sexual desire disorders. Thus, Melanotan 2 is a well-studied peptide in terms of human behaviour, sexual desire, and impulse control [4].
Impulse control and alcohol
Norway Scientists researching this peptide have found that it may influence oxytocin signalling and thus behaviour in alcohol dependant individuals. In addition, melanotan 2 seems to work synergistically with naltrexone (boosting efficacy by over sevenfold) to reduce binge-like ethanol intake in subjects [5].
Furthermore, as well as being an effective alcoholism treatment, these findings suggest that MT-2 taps into a fundamental process of cravings and desire in mammals. Also, the role that oxytocin plays in impulsive behaviour may be clarified by further research. It could help scientific researchers identify the craving pathways and lead to a better understanding in human motivation in areas such as work and relationships [6].
